Bayern soften stance:Bayern Munich appear to have softened their stance over Manchester United target Owen Hargreaves.

Since United first expressed their interest this year, Bayern have remained adamant they will not sell the 25-year-old England midfielder.

But general manager Uli Hoeness said: "If ever we found a replacement for Owen, who cost less than we'd get for him, we might think about it." But Hoeness said any deal would take place next summer and not in January.

"We face Real Madrid in the Champions League in February so we're not about to weaken our team," he added. "Our top priority is to strengthen the team and we need Hargreaves for that."

Wright-Phillips wanted

Portsmouth have admitted they would be interested in enticing Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips to Fratton Park in next month's transfer window. The adopted son of former Arsenal marksman Ian Wright cost Chelsea £21 million from Manchester City last season but has started only 19 games for the Premiership champions - and just 13 in the league.

Portsmouth have now confirmed they are interested in bringing him to the south coast where former Blues team-mate Glen Johnson is on loan for the season.

Ref admits mistake

Referee Kenny Clark admits he was wrong to deny Celtic a penalty during Sunday's Old Firm derby. The official ignored the pleas for a spot-kick when Neil Lennon was fouled in the box by Rangers full-back Steven Smith. Celtic were leading at the time through a Thomas Gravesen goal but were held to a 1-1 draw when Brahim Hemdani netted for Rangers with three minutes to go. Lennon and manager Gordon Strachan were fuming about the penalty incident. After watching the incident again on television, Clark admits he called it wrong.
