Henry's Barca contact

Ronaldinho has dropped another hint that Barcelona will lure Arsenal striker Thierry Henry to the Spanish club.

Until Henry signs a contract extension to keep him at Arsenal beyond next summer, speculation will linger that the three-times Premiership Footballer of the Year's career will end at Camp Nou after a cut-price transfer. The fears will not diminish after Barcelona's Ballon d'Or winner revealed he is in regular contact with their captain.

"I speak with Henry on the phone quite often, but I haven't spoken to him this week," said Ronaldinho ahead of Wednesday's Champions League final between the two clubs. "This week we have swapped a few text messages. He is a fantastic player, one of the best in the world."

Given signs new deal

Newcastle and Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given has signed a new five-year contract which will keep him at St James' Park until 2011.

The new deal will keep the goalkeeper, who was named in the Premiership's team of the season, with Newcastle until he is 35.

"I'm extremely delighted to get my new contract sorted," Given told the club's website, nufc.co.uk

Given, who joined Newcastle from Blackburn in 1997 after a spell on loan at Sunderland, was made stand-in captain by caretaker boss Glenn Roeder in the absence of Alan Shearer towards the end of this season.

Chelsea fight for Gallas

Chelsea have responded to William Gallas' desire to leave the club by saying they have no intention of releasing him.

The France defender told yesterday's edition of French sports daily L'Equipe: "AC Milan are interested in me and I'm interested in going there. I have taken my decision, I want to leave."

But later yesterday the English champions issued a statement saying: "William Gallas has made a great contribution to Chelsea since he has been here and he has been offered a very good new contract in recognition of that. That contract is still on offer and we would like him to be at Chelsea for the next four years."

Shevchenko's decision

AC Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko has confirmed he wants to leave the Italian club this summer. The Ukraine international called a press conference to read a prepared statement confirming reports he may leave the San Siro after seven years. The striker has been a target for Chelsea in recent years.

"I want to leave," he said. "I cannot hide my wish any longer from the fans. I have spoken to the president (Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi). No decision has been taken yet."

Italian probe begins

Officials from Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina along with Italy's World Cup referee Massimo De Santis are being investigated about potential match-fixing, an Italian judicial source said yesterday.

Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle, Lazio president Claudio Lotito and Juventus CEO Antonio Giraudo were formally under investigation by Naples magistrates.

Leeds to hold inquiry

Leeds have promised to hold an internal inquiry following allegations their players trashed their Deepdale dressing room after the Championship play-off semi-final win over Preston.
