Andrei Arshavin's agent has been in talks with Chelsea over a move from Zenit St Petersburg, according to a spokesman from the Russian club.
Arshavin has attracted interest from a number of European clubs following his excellent performances at Euro 2008 for Russia.
After professing his love for the club, Barcelona were thought to be leading the race to sign the 27-year-old, however a Zenit spokesman has claimed that talks with Chelsea have taken place and a move to Stamford Bridge could be an option.
Zenit spokesman Konstantin Sarsania said in the Daily Star: "On Thursday, players from the national team return to our training camp.
"Arshavin and his agent Pavel Andreev are to clarify their position with us then.
"We do not want to sell Arshavin. That's exactly why we need Andrei to meet the bosses of the club - to understand what he is really after.
"My understanding was that he would like to go and play abroad. But he isn't only interested in moving to Barcelona.
"There's also Chelsea. Andrei never rejected the idea of moving there.
"The Chelsea managers know the situation and have already talked to his agent."
One thing for sure is that Arshavin wants to leave. On his return to Russia today, he said: "I would like to move to another club.
"It's hard for me to say, it depends on a lot of things. So far, there's nothing concrete."
