Eircom League round-up: Cork City's week went from bad to worse as they were crushed 3-0 by Shamrock Rovers this evening. The cash-strapped club could have done with something to cheer about having been docked 10 points last night, but came away from Tolka Park with nothing after a dispirited display.
Joseph Ndo got the ball rolling for Rovers as he got his first goal for the club in the 36th minute. And when Sean O'Connor and Eoin Doyle netted for the home side early in the second-half there was to be no way back for the visitors, who also had Joe Gamble sent off.
Derry City, meanwhile, maintained their push for European football next season with a 1-0 win over neighbours Finn Harps.
Mark Farren got on the end of Eddie McCallion's cross in the 57th minute to secure the points for the home side.
And while Paul Hegarty's men did try to force the issue when pushing forward immediately after the goal, Derry keeper Gerard Doherty was never seriously tested.
