Trinidad and Tobago 0-3 England: England cruised to a 3-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago, with Jermain Defoe scoring twice and Gareth Barry also finding the net in Port of Spain.
Coach Fabio Capello named his strongest side and they were in control from the off with Barry volleying home after just 12 minutes.
Moments later it was two as Defoe poked the ball home and he doubled his tally just minutes into the second-half to wrap up the win.
Capello made a host of changes after the break with Joe Hart, Phil Jagielka and Stephen Warnock all joining Dean Ashton - who started the match - in making their England debuts.
England captain David Beckham said after the match he was "surprised" to be named skipper by coach Capello.
Beckham was substituted at half-time after a solid first-half performance and passed the armband to Barry.
"I was surprised and didn't expect it," said Beckham.
"But I'll always answer the call and be available for my country and captain them as well - it was a surprise but I am honoured to do so."
Beckham admitted Capello had demanded a professional performance from England's players but said focus must now switch to the World Cup qualifying campaign.
"It was a tough performance and the manager was telling us before the game that even though it was a friendly we had to take it seriously," he added.
"It was the centenary game for them but they wanted to beat England and we had to put in a good performance and I think we did that.
"The players in the camp are motivated and whether we have got experienced players or young players we have to play as one.
"The respect is there [for Capello] and there for one another and that is how it needs to be and the qualifiers are the big thing for us now."
Defoe was glad to have given Capello a reminder of his goal-scoring talents after struggling for chances at international level.
He said: "I enjoyed it. It was important to get the win and I'm delighted to get two goals.
"To play for your country is the best thing in the world. The lads have had long seasons but they're all here and we've enjoyed every minute of it.
"I just want to keep learning. When a new manager comes in everyone starts on the same level and to get two goals, I'm delighted."
