Fabregas fears Henry could leave

Cesc Fabregas believes the lure of Barcelona could prove too tempting for Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry this summer.

Cesc Fabregas believes the lure of Barcelona could prove too tempting for Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry this summer.

Barcelona were keen to sign Henry last year, but the prolific Frenchman opted to pen a lucrative new contract with the Gunners.

But the Catalan giants are again being linked with the 29-year-old as the Spanish season draws to a close, and Fabregas admits that interest could give Henry food for thought.

"I think that it's difficult to say no to Barca. I know Henry likes Barca, the problem is he loves Arsenal a lot for what the club have given him and the experience he has had at the club," Fabregas told Spanish media.

"Barca are one of the best clubs in the world, if not the best, and Henry is a great player. Barca always have the best players in the world."

Henry, who is the Gunners' all-time top scorer, has reportedly become frustrated with Arsenal's lack of recent success, with the north London side having finished fourth in the Primera Liga standings this season, well adrift of champions Manchester United.

"Henry has already won the World Cup and now he wants to win titles at club level," added Fabregas, who is currently on international duty with Spain.

"For me Barca are a top club, so are Arsenal but it is up to Henry to decide what is the best for him.  If it was up to me, Henry and I would play together for the rest of our lives."

As for his own future, Fabregas admits he would relish the opportunity to play for Barcelona at some point.

Real Madrid have been regularly linked with the midfielder, but the 20-year-old would prefer a return to Barca, where he learned his trade before switching to Arsenal in 2003.

"I hope there is a chance to return (to Barca). People who know me already know this. The problem is that Barca, as I have witnessed with the national team, already has great players like Xavi and Iniesta, who are playing very well. There is always hope."  PA
