Forde to miss friendly against Wales

Ireland goalkeeper to have operation on knee injury today and could also miss World Cup qualifiers next month

David Forde to have surgery on knee injury

Millwall have confirmed that David Forde will have an operation on a knee injury later today and is likely to be out of action for between four and six weeks.

The Republic of Ireland international will definitely miss next week's friendly against Wales in Cardiff but will also struggle to be fit for the World Cup qualifying double header at the start of September.

Giovanni Trapattoni’s side face Sweden at Lansdowne Road on September 6th before travelling to Austria four days later.

Forde, who has now firmly established himself as Ireland’s number one, suffered the injury during Millwall’s defeat to Yeovil Town on Saturday and subsequent scans revealed an operation was needed.
