Newcastle have granted goalkeeper Shay Given permission to talk to Manchester City, although a fee has yet to be agreed for the Republic of Ireland international.
Given did not figure in Wednesday's 2-1 defeat to City, with Magpies manager Joe Kinnear citing injury for the reason the player was not in his squad.
Kinnear revealed earlier this week the Magpies were disappointed with City's latest offer of €5.5million for the player.
Kinnear said earlier this week: "We have had approaches for Shay - serious approaches from Man City.
"Irrespective of all the stories, they've offered £5million and not a penny more. We think it's an insult to offer that for the best keeper in the Premier League.
"It's a derisory offer. But Shay has made it clear he wants to leave.”
Newcastle are thought to be hoping for at least £7million for the Donegal and with richest club in the world bidding for their man they are sure to hang on for the best deal possible.
Given, therefore, is unlikely to feature in Newcastle's derby clash with Sunderland or City's visit to Stoke City this weekend, but the move must be completed by 5pm on Monday.
