Celtic striker John Hartson has agreed to stay with the Hoops for a further season.

The Wales international had appeared to be on his way out of Celtic Park after parting with his wife earlier this year.

She has returned to Cardiff prompting the 31-year-old forward to make lengthy trips to Wales to see his children.

But now the former Arsenal and West Ham man has agreed to stay with the Hoops for a further season.

Hartson said: "My future has been sorted out and I'm delighted to say I'm going to stay with Celtic next season. It is a huge weight off my mind to know exactly what I'm doing.

"There has been speculation for months that I might be going here, there or the next place. But this puts it all to bed — I'm staying where I am."

The forward also insists the presence of Gordon Strachan as manager was also a swaying factor in his decision.

Hartson added: "There is no doubt the manager has been influential in my decision. He made it clear in a meeting with my agent he wanted me to stay and I was pleased to hear that.

"I spoke with my family about staying with Celtic for another year and they gave me their full support.

"Now I can play the remaining games this season and enjoy the summer break and enjoy a summer break without any speculation." PA
