Hasselbaink eyes Birmingham deal

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is interested in discussing a possible move to newly-promoted Birmingham, according to his agent.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is interested in discussing a possible move to newly-promoted Birmingham, according to his agent.

The striker had talks with Blues boss Steve Bruce 12 months ago before opting to move to Charlton.

Now he is keen to speak again with Bruce following his release by the Addicks and Birmingham's return to the Premiership.

Agent Humphrey Nyman said: "There was interest from Birmingham last season but it didn't happen. However, If Birmingham wanted to talk to Jimmy again, he would be very interested to meet them.

"He is open to all options. Jimmy has kept himself very fit but was disappointed Charlton did not use him that much last season.

"But he is eager to stay in the Premiership. There has been no contact from Birmingham yet but we would be happy to talk to them."

Bruce has stressed the need not to repeat the mistake of two years ago when his squad was top heavy with players approaching the end of their careers, but he recognises the need to bring in experienced players.

The Birmingham boss is stepping up his attempts to strengthen his squad after signing on-loan Arsenal midfielder Fabrice Muamba on a permanent basis.

He is hoping to complete the loan move of another Gunner, defender Johan Djourou, although he is still waiting to hear from Arsene Wenger.

Bruce is also interested in out-of-favour West Ham defender Paul Konchesky — but only if they revise their £4million price tag.
