Soccer:Pat Fenlon will be confirmed as the new manager of Hibernian tomorrow morning. The 42-year-old Dubliner, who has a year left on his contract with Bohemians, had been linked with the position since Colin Calderwood was sacked earlier this month after just 13 months in the job.
Fenlon was given permission to talk to Hibs about the vacancy yesterday with the cash-strapped Airtricity League club believed to be prepared to waive any compensation payment due to their current financial plight.
Fenlon, a soccer analyst with The Irish Times, has been Bohs manager since December 2007, leading the club to two league titles. He previously worked with Shelbourne and Derry City.
Hibs are not commenting about the vacancy until it is filled, but tomorrow’s pre-match media conference is likely to see Fenlon introduced.
Fenlon was linked with Dundee United before the appointment of Peter Houston as boss, but the move broke down over compensation Bohemians requested. However, that is no longer an obstruction.
Meanwhile, Calderwood, who was sacked as Hibs boss on November 6th following 12 wins in 49 matches and 12 months in charge, has found a new job less than three weeks following his departure from Easter Road.
The former Scotland defender was today confirmed as assistant manager of Birmingham and has been reunited with his former boss at Newcastle, Chris Hughton.
