Major scare for Northern Ireland as Kyle Lafferty limps out of training

The top scorer in qualifying for European Championships is being assessed by medics

Having, against all the odds, qualified for Euro 2016, Northern Ireland find themselves in a daunting Group C with Germany, Poland and Ukraine, how will they fare against some of Europe's most feared attackers? Ken Early reports.

Northern Ireland were given a scare just five days before their Euro 2016 campaign begins when key striker Kyle Lafferty limped out of training.

The 28-year-old, who scored seven times in qualification, injured himself when stretching to make an intervention during a session that was open to the public at Saint-Georges-de-Reneins on Tuesday.

Lafferty then went in for assessment from the medical team while Michael O’Neill’s team continued their drills in the French sunshine.
