Rep of Ireland under-21 1 Germany under-21 1: There were plenty of positives for manager Don Givens as his side drew with Germany at Turner's Cross. Michael Spillane earned a share of the spoils for the home side, cancelling out Sandro Wagner's earlier strike.

Ireland, who continue to build for the 2011 Euro Championship qualifying campaign, had early chances to take the lead through Sean Scannell and Shane Lowry but were caught on the counter-attack on 22 minutes.

Wagner broke down the right and, at the second attempt, forced the ball past Shane Redmond.

Ireland hit back within four minutes the unmarked centre back Spillane headed home a Garvan cross.

The contest fizzled out after the break for a while but Givens’ charges acquitted themselves well with Spillane in the 62nd minute and Stephen Gleeson in the 67th offering the German goalkeeper something to think about.
