Frank Lampard will undergo a scan today on the hamstring injury which ruled him out of England’s game against Uruguay.

The Chelsea midfielder is thought to have suffered the injury in last week’s Champions League game against Barcelona.

He played on through that game because the Blues were already down to 10 men after Asier del Horno’s red card and he had recovered enough to play 90 minutes and score against Portsmouth on Saturday.

But the hamstring problem was aggravated during an England training session yesterday and Lampard was advised to pull out of the international friendly against Uruguay at Anfield today.

He is doubtful for Saturday’s game at West Brom but Chelsea will wait for the results of the scan before ruling him in or out of next week’s trip to Barcelona. The Blues are 2-1 down after the home leg at Stamford Bridge and Jose Mourinho’s squad is already depleted.

Michael Essien and Del Horno are both suspended and Lampard’s omission would be a huge blow for the Premiership champions. They must score at least twice in the Nou Camp and Lampard is one of their most effective goal threats.
