Ein Frankfurt 0 Newcastle 0:Newcastle claimed top spot in Uefa Cup Group H and ensured they would avoid a Champions League side in the next round, with a fortunate 0-0 draw in Frankfurt.

The Magpies were indebted to goalkeeper and captain Shay Given - who pulled off a fine save to keep out Albert Streit's 25th minute header - but also to the poor finishing of striker Ioannis Amanatidis, who wasted two glorious opportunities to put the home side ahead.

Glenn Roeder's side mustered little as an attacking force, but Frankfurt defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos had to hack a 61st-minute header from Antoine Sibierski off the line.

Naohiro Takahara glanced a close-range header wide on 79 minutes for the homeside, but Emre perhaps should have won it seconds later for Newcastle when he forced his way in on goal but could not beat goalkeeper Markus Proll.

Stephen Taylor got in another superb challenge to deflect Takahara's shot on the turn with eight minutes remaining to protect Given again.

The Irishman could do little to stop Takahara in the 86th minute when the striker beat the offside trap, only to lift his shot over both Given and the crossbar.

Fabian Canobbio's 77th minute strike was enough to send Celta Vigo into second place in Group H as they secured the three points against Fenerbahce.

In Blackburn's Group E crowd trouble forced the suspension of the game between AS Nancy and Feyenoord, French radio RMCreported.

Hosts Nancy had been leading the Dutch side by three goals to nil but were forced to leave the pitch after 80 minutes.

"The match will resume around 2150 GMT", Nancy chairman Jacques Rousselot told the radio station. All Nancy fans left the stadium, RMCreported.
