Soccer: Nottingham Forest are waiting to discover the extent of the ankle injury Simon Cox suffered against Wolves. The Republic of Ireland international was carried off on a stretcher after 65 minutes of the Reds' 2-1 win at Molineux on Saturday following a challenge by home defender Kevin Foley.

Forest manager Sean O’Driscoll explained at the weekend that Cox “heard something crack at the back of his ankle and was in a lot of pain”. However, an initial X-ray has revealed no major bone fractures but the striker was due to have a scan on Monday to determine whether there is any ligament damage.

Cox joined Forest in the summer after failing to hold down a place at West Brom and has scored four goals for his new club. The striker has been a key member of Giovanni Trapattoni’s side although the 25-year-old has played much of his recent football for his country as an auxiliary midfielder.
