UCD 0 Shamrock Rovers 6:Shamrock Rovers made sure there was no repeat of last week's FAI Cup fourth round draw with UCD, in which they surrendered a two-goal lead, by hammering the Students 5-0 at the Belfield Bowl.

In a repeat of last year’s final, Michael O’Neill’s side will now meet Sligo Rovers in the quarters.

Billy Dennehy will take the plaudits after scoring a hat-trick, while Chris Turner and Gary McCabe got on the scoresheet as Rovers put UCD to the sword in a rampant first half.

The visitors were off the mark after just four minutes when Dennehy won a penalty and finished the rebound after seeing his initial effort saved by Ger Bannon.

McCabe’s corner was then headed home by Turner in the 18th minute and the midfielder scored one of his own seven minutes later after Mick Leahy took him down in the box and was sent off.

McCabe despatched the spot-kick with aplomb.

Dennehy added his second and Rovers’ fourth shortly before the break when he pounced after Ronan Finn’s lob was saved by Barron.

The left winger pounced for his third in the 71st minute when substitute Paddy Kavanagh’s goal caused confusion in the UCD box.

Kavanagh produced another in injury time when his cross was converted by Gary O'Neill
