Blackburn Rovers 2 West Brom 0: Blackburn manager Steve Kean celebrated his long-term contract with a third home victory in a row as Rovers saw off West Brom 2-0 at Ewood Park to climb up to seventh place in the Premier League.

Kean this week signed a deal to keep him at the club until the summer of 2013 and, after a hotly-contested 40 minutes, he watched as Gabriel Tamas gave Rovers a huge helping hand with a powerful header into his own net.

The hosts' second came less than two minutes into the second half, Junior Hoilett sending a blistering shot into the roof of the net, and Blackburn held on reasonably comfortably, although West Brom should have had a penalty for a foul on Peter Odemwingie 20 minutes from the end.

Hoilett was delighted with his goal, telling Sky Sports 1: "It means a lot, I've been waiting for it for a long time. I just wanted to get my foot through it and get it into the back of the net."

Rovers keeper Paul Robinson helped preserve his side's two-goal lead in the second half with a string of saves.

He said: "We knew it was going to be a difficult game. They did well second half but thankfully we rode the storm and managed to get the three points."

But he said he was not willing to reconsider his decision to retire from international football.

"No not yet," he said.

West Brom boss Roberto di Matteo felt his side should have had a definite penalty when Odemwingie was brought down by Jermaine Jones, only for referee Mark Clattenburg to inexplicably award a free-kick instead.

"Yeah absolutely, it was quite clear from where I was standing that the foul was inside," the Italian told Sky Sports 1.
