UCD 1 Bray Wanderers 1: Although Pete Mahon would still like another victory to guarantee top flight status, his UCD team are all but assured of their safety having come from behind to force a point.
Bray, who missed the chance to move level with the students, should also rest easier having banked four invaluable points during a crucial and emotional week.
The visitors initially pinned their opponents deep but, once unshackled, UCD were intent on slicing open their rivals.
But while midfielders Ronan Finn and Shane McFaul cut a swagger in possession, neither could penetrate a Bray defence that held steady until the 70th minute.
Conan Byrne and Tony McDonnell both threatened during a dour first half but their respective efforts never troubled goalkeeper Steve Williams who protected his station well.
Bray also saw plenty of the ball but poor decision making regularly rendered their advances redundant.
Irish youth international Emeka Onwubiko showed neatness of touch when holding up play in attack but those supporting him were reading off different scripts.
Promising positions were often squandered as a result.
UCD, too, stood firm in defence although they struggled with the high ball, deployed regularly for imposing defender Clive Delaney who at times prolonged his stay forward from deadball situations.
Bray, though, took the lead four minutes after the restart when Stephen Fox spotted Onwubiko in space and the striker steered low past Darren Quigley from just inside the area.
But UCD were relentless in their pursuit of an equaliser and it duly arrived with 20 minutes remaining. Substitute Peter Hynes split the defence and strike partner Connor Sammon applied the finish.
