Soccer:Liverpool have completed the signing of Uruguay forward Luis Suarez on a five-and-a-half-year contract. The 24-year-old passed a medical today and completed the final details on the paperwork after the Reds agreed a deal with Ajax worth up to €27 million last Friday.
Suarez, who scored 111 goals in 159 matches for the Dutch side, will wear the iconic number-seven shirt made famous by the likes of Kevin Keegan and current manager Kenny Dalglish.
The fee is a club record for Liverpool, surpassing the €23 million fee for Fernando Torres in the summer of 2007, but it is not likely to stand for long.
Newcastle striker Andy Carroll is undergoing a medical at the club's Melwood training ground and should he pass that his transfer will cost about €41 million.
The cost of those two signings was set to be offset somewhat however by the €58 million they will receive from Chelsea when Torres completes his expected move to Stamford Bridge on what has been a dramatic final day of the January window for the Merseysiders.
