Soccer:The broadcasting rights for the Republic of Ireland's World Cup play-off second leg match against France next Wednesday remains up in the air with Irish fans in danger of a TV blackout for one of Ireland's most important soccer matches in recent years.
Broadcasters RTÉand Sky Sportsremain in discussions with the French Football Federation (FFF) and their TV partners TF1 over the second leg in Paris.
As yet neither has been able to strike a deal, and if that remains the case, Giovanni Trapattoni’s men could walk out at the Stade de France with millions of Irish viewers left without coverage for a match that will decide if Ireland is to progress to the World Cup finals in South Africa next year.
Reports have suggested that the FFF is asking for €1.5million for the rights after the FAI handed the home leg to the highest bidder, independent channel M6, for around €4.5million.
