Olimpija Ljubljana 2 Bohemians 0:A goal in each half from midfielder Dare Vrsic left Bohemians with a mountain to climb in their second leg at Dalymount Park after defeat in the Slovenian capital tonight.
The home side, wearing green and white hoops, adopted a shoot on sight policy against the Dublin club and Matic Fink hit the crossbar on nine minutes as they showed their shooting prowess from long range.
Bohemians played with a five-man midfield and young striker Christy Fagan up front on his own, but they failed to gain enough possession as the home side dominated the first half.
They held out well until the game was turned on its head, when goalkeeper Barry Murphy was harshly judged to have taken down an Olimpija player in the box and the referee pointed to the spot.
Vrsic buried the penalty past Murphy to give the home side the advantage.
Fagan worked hard in his lone role up front in the second half, but Bohemians were getting no change off the Slovenians despite plenty of effort
And on 76 minutes Olimpija doubled their lead, when Vrsic fired home a stunning free-kick from just outside the box to settle matters.
