Wales 0 Finland 2:Wales' World Cup dreams were dealt a savage blow as they slipped to a disappointing 2-0 defeat in Cardiff in their Group Four qualifier against an experienced Finland side.
The Finns took the lead three minutes from the break when Jari Litmanen's pass sent former Charlton forward Jonatan Johansson clear to squeeze his shot home off a post.
And for all Wales' efforts, their young stars could not find a way through a well-drilled defence with Sami Hyypia outstanding at its hub. Substitute Shefki Kuqi scored the second with two minutes left at the Millennium Stadium.
Wales captain Craig Bellamy told Sky Sports: "It's disappointing all round. They're not a good side.
"You've probably seen two sides trying to contest this group and neither of us have got a hope of qualifying from what I've seen here.
"Where we go from here, God knows. We have got a lot of games to play and we have to try and get as many points as we can but it's the same old story, out of the group.
"They're not a good side. I do think we are a better side, even though we have lost. They sucker- punched us really. Johansson, he has scored, but I don't know how. I don't think he's a good enough player to score. We were just poor."
