Swede Henrik Stenson made the most of an early start to fire a four-under-par 68 and take the sole lead after the second round of the Qatar Masters.
Stenson, who shared the overnight lead with Ricardo Gonzalez of Argentina, shot five birdies and dropped just one stroke to add to the 66 in Thursday's first round for a 10-under 134.
Gonzalez played steady golf to finish on 69 after his first round 66, He lies one shot off Stenson.
Britons Nick Dougherty and Richard Finch were in third place. Dougherty added a 67 to his first-round 69 while Finch shot another 68.
Defending champion Ernie Els had another round of one-under par 71 but the South African still made the cut and equalled German Bernhard Langer's record of surviving the halfway guillotine 69 consecutive times.
Two golfers achieved holes in one at the par-three 215-yard third hole.
Ireland's Peter Lawrie led the way, using a three iron. Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee achieved the same feat at the same hole with a five iron.
Lawrie is on 143, Thongchai is on 139.
