Strong southern entry to set pace at Kirkistown

MOTORSPORT: The strong southern contingent of Formula Ford drivers, headed by Noel Dunne, Morgan Dempsey, Paul Dagg, Neville Smith and Alan Dwyer and Northern teenager Kris Loane, will set the pace in the Martin Donnelly Trophy feature race at Kirkistown tomorrow.

Brian Nelson, Trevor Templeton, Jonathan McGall and Bernard Dolan are some of the once famous drivers who have been lured out of retirement to compete in the Formula Ford 1600 Masters race. As well as all the usual Kirkistown races, Michael Devaney will put on a demonstration in the Team Ireland A1 Grand Prix car.

The battle for points is on at Mondello Park on Sunday in the penultimate championship meeting for several classes. Ken Fildes on 69 points leads Dan Daly (57) in Formula Libre. In Supercars it's between Rod McGovern (118), David O'Brien (115) and Johnny Whelan (109). Derek Graham (131) leads Quentin Smith (92) and Gordon Kellett (84) in Fiat Abarths.
