Several World Cup teams were fined yesterday for breaches of a tournament agreement covering match kit and equipment.
Rugby World Cup (RWC) officials got tough with teams in relation to the use of headgear that has displayed manufacturer's logos, jerseys that displayed more than one manufacturer's mark and equipment displaying a logo other than that of an official supplier.
"We have received apologies from the unions concerned, and a number of them were in breach of their participation agreements," said International Rugby Board chief executive Stephen Baines. "All have been fined, and the extent of these fines will be announced at the conclusion of the tournament."
World Cup organisers have announced a one-minute silence will be held before all matches this weekend as a mark of respect for victims of the Paddington rail disaster.
