Calling all sideline and barroom Brian O'Driscolls, who whinge and moan about the quality of club rugby and invariably consider themselves to be a cut above those who do as opposed the say they can do. There is now the opportunity to get involved, without the physical contact. Over the course of eight weeks in June and July, the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) together with the Irish Tag Rugby Association (ITRA) will be running an adult Tag Rugby Summer League Competition in Limerick and Dublin.

Tag is a 7-a-side game (squad of 12) which can be played at any level, with both males and females equally taking part and getting fit at the same time! It especially appeals to those people who have never played rugby before, as it is a non-contact free flowing game which compliments a range of other sports with extra emphasis on skill and teamwork! The idea is to score a try across the line. The defenders have to pull a `velcro tag' off an attacking player's belt, to force that player to pass the ball. Each team has five `tags' in which to score a try.

The sport originated in Australia in 1992, with the rules being adapted from Rugby League. It has been a phenomenal success across Australia with over 30,000 people currently playing tag rugby. As a result The Irish Tag Rugby Association was set up in Ireland in June 2000 and is now run under the IRFU umbrella.

There has been a massive response already but there are still a number of place available for the midweek leagues at the ALSAA Complex in Dublin and the Old Crescent RFC base in Limerick.
