Dr Jim McDaid, the Minster for Tourism, Sport and Recreation, has invited developers to submit proposals for the design, construction, financing and management of a national 50-metre swimming pool.

The Tender Procedure Notice for the pool, published in today's national newspapers, is "the first step in the realisation of the Government's commitment, in its Action Plan for the Millennium, to invite proposals for a national 50 metre swimming pool project," said McDaid. "I now urge developers to come forward so that this facility can be put in place without delay, in order to ensure that our international swimmers have available to them the same quality training facilities as their international competitors."
