KEN MAGINNESS MP was at a meeting of Dungannon rugby club as part of a busy schedule last week and having chaired a debate which undertook to raise £1 million for club developments found time to be at Lakelands Park on Saturday.

However, Terenure turned on the style to beat Dungannon by 45 points to 18 after a match which seldom really moved past the mediocre.

One felt sorry for Dungannon who were forced to make three changes in their selected side before the start and then lost four players through injury during the match itself.

With the wind in their backs Terenure took an early lead when Peter Walsh kicked a penalty but were pegged back within five minutes when Keith McGarry equalised.

A sweeping move into the open side involving several players ended with Clarke bursting into the line to outstrip the Dungannon cover to dive over. Walsh converted.

Dungannon were not ready to concede at this stage and showed their determination when Charlie Simpson went over after Keith Walker won a lineout near the Terenure line.

Walsh then kicked a penalty and when Hennebry made a half break near the halfway line Clarke surged through again for a try and Walsh converted to give Terenure a lead of 20-8 lead at the break.

Terenure continued to run the ball at every opportunity and Walsh was stopped just short of the line before popping over another penalty to stretch the lead. McGarry was on target with a penalty before Hennebry inspired another move which involved Smyth and Clarke before Coleman's blinding pace again left Dungannon standing.

By now Dungannon had lost both of their second rows with consequent effects throughout the side and Coleman scored again and Walsh converted to stretch the lead to 35-11. Michael Smyth added another try and Walsh converted again to make it 42-11.

Dungannon were awarded a penalty try for reasons which were obscure and converted that before Walsh had the last word to give Terenure an impressive victory.
