KING'S HOSPITAL were by no means the fall guys in yesterday's Leinster Schools' Senior Cup quarter-final at Donnybrook but, by the close of play, Terenure had got the return their possession deserved.

By half-time Terenure had the game in the bag and in the end could afford King's Hospital a consolation score when Stephen Myers intercepted a pass in the closing minutes to go over for his side's only try of the game.

Terenure were well in command from the start and took just 10 minutes to open their account when right wing Simon Coleman went over on the blindside for the first of two tries.

Eamon Travers converted but King's Hospital, at the third attempt, finally got their names on the scoreboard when Robert Nowlan struck over a penalty from the left hand side.

The losers were then put under severe pressure and after surviving several attacks on their line finally gave way to out-half John English, who went over just to the left of the posts.

A lovely jinking run by Terenure captain Travers increased their lead with Paul Meade adding the conversion points, and the left wing put further distance between the two sides with a touchline penalty kick to make it 22-3 at the break.

A back-division move put Meade in for a try just after the break before King's Hospital out-half Alan Munnelly was successful with a drop goal.

Terenure came back with number eight Donnack O'Donohoe first scoring a try himself, then supplying hooker, Simon Elkinson, with a scoring chance which the front row forward accepted, showing remarkable pace.

Fittingly, it was Simon Coleman who closed his side's try account with Travers converting once more.
