The long wait: what they thought

Brian O'Driscoll

"I wasn't sure, I was about as doubtful as everyone else. It was very 50/50. In going for the line I was confident that I would make it. My priority was to try and keep control over the ball; that was the most difficult thing. I tried to fend him (Xavier Garbajosa) off and then have a go at it. I was looking at the screen like everyone else, just waiting."

Peter Clohessy

"I actually thought that it wasn't a try so, I didn't enjoy watching it again and again on the screen. I looked at it and said, Jesus, time to head back for the drop-off. I suppose a lot of it depends on the angle that you had when you were looking at it. I have to say that I honestly did not expect us to be given the try. I wasn't complaining though."

"It was absolutely 100 per cent a try. The scoreline shows that it was a try and that's all that counts. I guess we were all negative, because we lined the 22 just in case. But our attitude was that he either gives it or he doesn't, and if he doesn't then we just have to get on with the match."

Denis Hickie

"I suppose I watched the replays on the screen as much as anyone else in the ground did. I couldn't make up my mind. The big screen is that little bit bigger, so the miniature details aren't that clear. To be honest I thought it was six of one and half a dozen of the other. If we hadn't have got it, I wouldn't have been too surprised. I wasn't surprised that we got it either."

Mick Galwey

"I went over to Brian (O'Driscoll) and asked him. The fact that the decision took so long made it better for us. I mean, 50,000 Irish supports can't be wrong. I don't think that you really worry whether you'll get the try or not. You just try and stay focused and run through what is likely to happen. Either way there is going to be a re-start."

Ronan O'Gara

"I was chatting to Gaillimh initially and neither of us were too convinced. Then we saw it from a side angle and it looked like he did keep the hand there. There was a big, long delay. I was chatting to (Christophe) Lamaison and he said `No try', and I said `Probably not'. He just asked for the ball and I said, no, I'd hold on to it for the minute. It turned out to be lucky."
