COMMONWEALTH GAMES/SWIMMING: Ian Thorpe anchored Australia to victory in the men's 4x200 metres freestyle relay in Manchester winning his fourth gold medal to move a step closer to his goal of seven at these Commonwealth Games.

The Australian squad of Grant Hackett, Leon Dunne, Jason Cram and Thorpe won easily in seven minutes 11.69 seconds. Canada finished second in 7:17.17 and England won bronze in 7:22.56.

Australia, the defending World and Olympic champions and world record-holders, have now won the event at every Commonwealth Games since 1954.

Collins, who clinched the tiny Caribbean islands their first gold medal in the 72-year-old history of the Games, tested positive for the prohibited substance salbutamol.

But he was allowed to keep his medal because it was accepted that he took the drug to treat asthma.
