Dundalk 1 UCD 1:MATTHEW Tipton's first goal for Dundalk was enough to secure the Lilywhites a share of the spoils against UCD at Oriel Park last night.
The Students took the lead in the 29th minute. Graham Rusk, an early replacement for the injured Paul Corey, fed Chris Mulhall on the left. The tricky forward went straight at Simon Madden and after a flurry of step-overs his left- footed effort deflected off the Dundalk full back and trickled past Peter Cherrie.
Prior to that, Dundalk had looked the better side. Tipton, making his home debut wearing the number 10 shirt vacated by Neale Fenn, hit the bar with a header, while Faz Kuduzovic blasted over after being set up by new signing Dean Bennett.
They equalised deep in first-half stoppage time. Stephen McDonnell’s cross from the left caused havoc in the UCD six-yard box and Tipton was on hand to score with a clinical effort on the turn.
Martin Russell’s side almost snatched the three points with 15 minutes to go when Mulhall set up Ciarán Kilduff but Wayne Hatswell did enough to ensure his shot went off target.
