Toomevara are back at the helm in Tipperary senior hurling after defeating the holders, Clonoulty-Rossmore, at Thurles yesterday in a decider that did not come up to expectations.

Toomevara's tidier hurling on the heavy pitch was decisive. Even against the breeze in the first half, they held the initiative and they deserved their lead at the interval, 0-10 to 0-7.

Toomevara extended their advantage with three points in 10 minutes after the break before Declan Ryan gave Clonoulty a life-line with a penalty goal in the 11th minute. But they were unable to build on it.
