Donegal's Christy Toye impressed for Sligo with Mayo's Michael Moyles dominant at midfield.

Sligo's defence was tight and their forwards were far more cohesive than their counterparts.

Athlone IT were still in contention until, with Sligo leading 0-6 to 0-4, goalkeeper Eoin Farrell dropped an innocuous shot by Karl Lacey, and Michael Doherty poked the ball to the net. David Ward added a point to give Sligo a six-point lead at half-time.

Sligo finished in style by reeling off nine unanswered points with defenders Lacey, Seán McDermott and Eamonn McGee all getting in on the act.
