Turkeys delight

There will be no shortage of Christmas cheer in the McMahon household in Charleville

There will be no shortage of Christmas cheer in the McMahon household in Charleville. Last week they had two nine-hole turkey competitions at the local golf club. John McMahon won the first of these with 24 points and received a penalty of one shot for his victory. Two days later he had an even better score of 26, minus one, which won him his second turkey in a week. Demery hits heights

We have been reporting on remarkable scores in singles competitions throughout the country over the past few weeks and, despite the tougher weather conditions, they are continuing. Last Thursday Catherine Demery, playing off 32, won the weekly ladies competition at Greystones with a remarkable score of 48 points. As one of her fellow competitors commented " that's a score that would be good enough to win a fourball normally".
