UCC 2-7 IT Sligo 0-11:HOLDERS UCC needed to produce a strong finish to keep their Sigerson Cup campaign alive after a competitive encounter at Edenderry yesterday.

IT Sligo, despite conceding goals either side of half-time to Paul Geaney, seemed poised for a semi-final place but the champions came good when it mattered. Stephen O’Brien, Mark Collins, Barry O’Driscoll and Geaney all landed well-constructed scores to secure victory in an exciting finish.

IT Sligo will rue 11 wides, especially those in the first half with the wind at their backs.

Eugene Mullen, Eugene Keating and Danny Cummins all landed impressive scores to get IT Sligo off to a good start but then Geaney found the net to leave it 0-7 to 1-2 at half-time.
