HOCKEY: There were no home comforts for Leinster's division one teams on Saturday with all five ties being won, three of them comprehensively, by the away sides. UCD maintained their 100 per cent winning start to the season, three games in to their campaign, while Old Alexandra got the better of fellow title contenders Loreto at Beaufort.

Pembroke Wanderers stay top of the table, with 13 points from five games, after beating Glenanne 6-0 in Tallaght - with Wendy Moffett and Orla Bell scored two apiece. UCD, Alexandra and Loreto are all now on nine points after the weekend, followed by Hermes on eight.

Hermes added to Trinity's early season woes, beating the students 7-0 to leave them pointless with Glenanne at the foot of the table. Jenny Osborne and Mary Logue shared four of the champions' goals, with Rosie Walsh, Helen Kilroy and Carol Devine completing the scoring.

A second half goal from Kelly Whelan, set up by Eimear Horan, was enough to give UCD the points against Corinthian, while two penalty strokes proved enough for Alexandra to secure a win over Loreto. Trish Conway converted the first of the strokes shortly before half-time but Nikki Keegan equalised after the break. It was left to Una Budd to take Alexandra's second stroke, 10 minutes from the end, after Conway had been forced off with a hamstring injury.

Siobhán Kane was among the scorers for Genesis in their 4-0 win over Railway Union at Park Avenue, her fifth goal in as many games - only Logue, on six goals, has scored more.

Munster champions Harlequins, yet to drop a point in their league campaign, beat the University of Limerick 3-0 at Farmers Cross on Saturday, with Jane Chapple, Elaine Bromell and Marissa Ahern getting their goals.

Pegasus, meanwhile, opened their defence of the Ulster Shield with a 5-0 win over Civil Service, while the team they beat 18-0 last week suffered another rout - UUJ losing 15-0 to Ballymena. Spare a thought for their goalkeeper.
