LEINSTER COLLEGES SH A SEMI-FINAL Kilkenny CBS 3-15 Coláiste Eoin 2-15:THREE PETER Vickery goals helped Kilkenny CBS into the final, but not before Coláiste Eoin pushed them all the way.
Vickery’s third strike, coming at the end of the first period of extra-time, sealed victory in Athy yesterday. Vickery lost his marker on the corner of the square and flicked a shot past goalkeeper Eoin Daltuin.
CBS bagged their second goal three minutes after the restart to lead 2-10 to 0-6 but Coláiste Eoin rallied as Seán MacCraith goaled a 21-yard free with 20 minutes left.
Although CBS hit back with a Stephen Farrell free, Coláiste Eoin picked off the next three points before Mark Schutte scored a great goal, flicking the sliotar over two opponents and drilling to the net. Two more points from Oisín Ó Ruairc and MacCraith (free) gave Coláiste Eoin the lead, and while Farrell (free) and Cathal Kenny edged CBS ahead the sides were forced into extra-time once Ó Ruairc converted a ‘65’.
Vickery’s 71st-minute goal decided the game. Two Donal Sutcliffe points gave Coláiste Eoin hope but CBS held out, setting up a clash against St Kieran’s College.
