A SPECTACULAR strike by Ray Walker, the substitute's second goal of the night, settled a thrilling FA Cup-tie and earned Port Vale the possibility of a fourth round trip to Everton.
Veteran Walker, called to arms after Dean Glover was stretchered off in the sixth minute, spun to crash in a left-foot shot in the 111th minute after Crystal Palace forced extra time.
Thickening fog made it difficult for both sides but the game burst into life after Port Vale took an 18th minute lead.
A slick move involving Andy Porter and Tony Naylor set up Walker, who scored his first of the season with a left foot drive.
Vale's lead was extended on 28 minutes after Marc Edworthy fouled Martin Foyle in the box and Porter scored from the penalty spot.
But Palace were back in contention just two minutes later when Gareth Taylor's header from a Ray Houghton corner reduced the deficit.
Palace defender Gareth Davies looked fortunate to receive just a yellow card for a severe challenge on Andy Hill seven minutes after the break.
But Vale appeared to take a firm grip of the tie with a third goal on the hour. Stuart Talbot sent Steve Guppy racing down the left flank and Foyle swooped to head in the winger's cross.
But back game Palace again to force extra time with two goals in seven minutes by substitutes Ian Cox and Bruce Dyer.
Cox leapt to glance in Dale Gordon's 76th minute free kick, then Dyer pounced to fire home after Andy Hill blocked Andy Roberts' shot on the line.
