HOCKEY: Pembroke Wanderers were held to a scoreless draw by Corinthians in the Leinster Senior League at Serpentine Avenue yesterday, but they have gone ahead of Old Alexandra by a one-goal difference with both sides level on points (17 from eight games).

With Wendy Moffatt and Orla Bell to the fore in midfield, Pembroke attacked relentlessly in the second half but could not pierce a resolute defence in which Nikki Joly was most effective.

Loreto swept into a challenging position with a 6-1 win over Genesis at Belfield. They have moved into third on 16 points, level with the title holders, Hermes.

Trinity eased their relegation concerns by overwhelming bottom-placed Glenanne, 8-0, at Santry. Laura McCoy notched a hat-trick as the students moved above Railway Union in the table.
