All-Ireland IHC Final: Wexford 1-11 Waterford 1-9Waterford's wait for an All-Ireland hurling title at any major grade since their under-21 success 15 years ago continues after Wexford claimed the intermediate crown at Nowlan Park.

The decisive score came five minutes before the end of normal time when Ciarán Lyng scored a terrific goal for Wexford.

Waterford started the game well, and quickly established a lead - with Conor Carey claiming a goal after only eight minutes. Slowly, however, Wexford reeled them in - scoring five points in a row - and they were only a single point behind at half-time - 0-8 to 1-6.

The teams traded scores in the opening period of the second half, before county senior footballer Lyng got on to the end of a David Redmond long ball to hit the back of the net.

The goal put Wexford - who had the wind at their backs after the break - 1-9 to 1-8 in front and John Roche added a point to extend their lead.

A third point from Waterford's Shane Casey, in reply to Roche's effort, cut the margin again to a single point but Pat Doran (son of former Wexford great, Tony) converted a '65' in injury-time to register his sixth point and secure Wexford's victory.
