"Sutton Death", was the eye-catching headline in yesterday's Sunday Mirror, alongside a photo of Chelsea striker Chris Sutton, but it merely referred to the imminent demise of his career at Stamford Bridge. The paper claims that Gianluca Vialli has given his two-goals-in-17-games man until the end of the month to help the club retrieve the £10 million they paid for him. According to the Sunday People Blackburn Rovers could soon be using some of the fee they received for Sutton on luring Terry Venables to Elwood Park. They claim Venables met Rovers' negotiators in London last week and are prepared to offer him a £750,000 a year contract.
Another man linked with the Blackburn job, Joe Kinnear, is, according to the Sunday Mirror, being lined up by Dermot Desmond, Celtic's biggest shareholder, as a replacement for John Barnes while the Scottish Daily Record reports that striker Mark Viduka will also be on his way out of Parkhead soon, with French club Lens prepared to pay £6 million.
The same paper claims Spurs will make a third attempt at convincing Manchester United's Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he should leave Old Trafford for London while the Daily Mirror says that Everton's Don Hutchinson is also on Graham's list of transfer targets, as are Wimbledon's John Hartson and Carl Cort. The Sunday People also report that Manchester United are currently negotiating the biggest shirt sponsorship deal in history, with American internet company Yahoo current favourites to tie up a £30 million four-year deal. Added to the £27 million they say Inter Milan are set to pay for David Beckham, United should have just about enough loot to replace Roy Keane.
