Tiger Woods was on course for an amazing fifth straight win after going to the turn in just 30 strokes at the Deutsche Bank Championship final round in Boston.
Three behind Vijay Singh overnight the world number one eagled the second, birdied the third and fifth and then had another eagle on the long seventh.
A 10-foot birdie attempt on the next horseshoed out at the hole, but by saving par on the next with a 12-footer after twice being in the rough Woods went three clear as Singh bogeyed.
There had been only three eagles all day by the 80 players - and Woods had had two of them.
It was in this event two years ago that he and Singh also went head to head on the last day, the Fijian coming out on top then to claim the number one spot on the world rankings.
Britain's Justin Rose, the halfway leader and joint second with Woods after 54 holes, went in the opposite direction.
Rose bogeyed four of the first five holes, but did then grab a birdie to climb back into a tie for fifth spot.
