During the NEC at Firestone last weekend, Tiger Woods talked about nipping across for a taco in Mark's (Mark O'Meara) house on the Isleworth Resort in Orlando, where they are neighbours. Which seemed so staid and unexciting for a young man worth a few hundred million dollars.

His good friend, Michael Jordan, once remarked that the only way he could escape from adoring fans for a normal holiday was on a golf course - which, incidentally, he did in this country last year. So, what is Woods to do? "Well, I just go, simple," he replied. "I make reservations and travel to wherever I need to go or drive wherever I need to and just enjoy myself."

And to those sceptics among us who were still unconvinced that this would be possible, he went on: "There are no special precautions (from a security standpoint). I just show up, put the credit card out, an Amex card, (with which he has an endorsement contract) and from there I pay the bill when I leave. And that's it. There you go."
