Italy

Filippo Inzaghi of AC Milan and Udinese's Vincenzo Iaquinta have both received late call-ups. Those two were widely perceived to be fighting over the last striking berth but ended up both being included with Cristiano Lucarelli of Livorno missing out.

Italy have been drawn with the Czech Republic, the United States and Ghana in the group stages.

Spain

Liverpool striker Fernando Morientes has been left out of Spain's 23-man squad. The 30-year-old, who played in the last two World Cups and has been a regular in the national team since 1998, will not travel to Germany, with coach Luis Aragones instead choosing an extra defender, Valencia's Carlos Marchena.

There are six Premiership players in Aragones' squad, including Morientes' Liverpool team-mates Jose Reina, Xabi Alonso and Luis Garcia, Arsenal duo Jose Antonio Reyes and Cesc Fabregas and Chelsea full back Asier del Horno.

Barcelona playmaker Andres Iniesta has been rewarded for his impressive formin La Liga and the Champions League this season.Brazil-born midfielder Marcos Senna, who was recently awarded Spanish nationality, has also earned a place after a solid season with Villarreal.

Forwards: Reyes (Arsenal), Torres (Atletico Madrid), Raul (Real Madrid), Villa (Valencia).

Brazil

Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva has been rewarded for a good season at club level with an expected place in Brazil's 23-man squad for the defence of the World Cup.

Goalscoring goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni has also been named in Brazil's squad. The Sao Paulo captain, who takes free-kicks and penalties for his club side, was selected ahead of Palmeiras custodian Marcos, who was the country's goalkeeper in the 2002 finals.

Elsewhere, coach Carlos Alberto Parreira sprung few surprises, naming Ronaldo, Robinho, Adriano and Fred as the strikers in his party. Parreira has opted for just two domestic-based players, Ceni and Corinthians midfielder Ricardinho. The holders will be in Group F in Germany, alongside Japan, Australia and Croatia.

Germany

Coach Jurgen Klinsmann has sprung a Theo Walcott-style selection surprise by naming uncapped Borussia Dortmund striker David Odonkor in his squad. The 22-year-old has been called up for the very first time, although Klinsmann revealed he had been part of his plans for a while now Chelsea's new signing Michael Ballack will captain the side.

Czech Republic

Hearts midfielder Rudi Skacel has been placed on stand-by for the Czech Republic's World Cup squad by coach Karel Bruckner. Skacel could get his chance as there are injury concerns over Zdenek Grygera, Vladimir Smicer and Vratislav Lokvenc. The Czechs have been drawn in a testing group, where they will play USA, Ghana and Italy.

Switzerland

Arsenal duo Philippe Senderos and Johan Djourou have been named in Switzerland's squad. Djourou, 19, who can play in defence or midfield, has made 12 appearances for the Gunners this season. Hakan Yakin is the notable absentee. The 29-year-old attacking midfielder has missed much of the season with a groin injury but staked his claim for a berth in coach Kobi Kuhn's squad with some decent displays for Young Boys at the end of the campaign. However, Kuhn has opted to go with uncapped Basle midfielder David Degenn.
