Share your story: Do you believe antigen tests are useful or snake oil?

For much of the past year and a half, antigen tests were viewed by many experts as not particularly useful in the battle against the spread of Covid-19. In fact, earlier this year, Nphet official Prof Philip Nolan described an antigen test as "snake oil".

This week, however, the Government announced the quick tests – which involve taking a sample from the nose with a swab – will play a much greater role in Ireland in future.

While the Government and have been slow to be convinced by antigen tests, many people, organisations and companies in have not. Rapid antigen testing has been used throughout the country and abroad for much of the pandemic.
