Dogs, their owners and seaside amenities

Sir, – A letter writer (February 12th) suggests that Wicklow County Council finally employ some dog wardens to gather fines from dog-owners who avoid clearing up after their pets. An answer to the issue is rather to follow the lead of other European countries and provide dog-dirt disposal bag dispensers at waste bins. This is an inexpensive way of addressing the problem and is much cheaper and more effective than wardens. The first section of the Greystones to Bray cliff walk would be a good initial location for this ground-breaking initiative. Wicklow County Council needs to take the lead on this. – Yours, etc,

FRANK KAVANAGH,

Greystones,

Co Wicklow.
