The Irish Times DAC, which comprises The Irish Times as well as a number of media outlets, has developed ambitious plans to meet the needs of its readers/subscribers, while remaining true to the values of The Irish Times Trust and sustaining its financial viability for the future. Changes in reader/subscriber behaviour together with increased competition for advertising revenue and considerable technology developments including the use of data analytics, have created a highly competitive media environment in which The Irish Times is published.
The Board of the DAC wishes to appoint an Editor to steer The Irish Times into the future, respecting the values and legacy of traditional Irish Times journalism, while focusing on the digital future and the competition for audiences at a time of enormous change.
The primary responsibility of the Editor of The Irish Times is to manage the day-to-day development of the content and design of The Irish Times publication, while maintaining a clear focus on the accomplishment of the long-term strategy of the DAC. The Editor manages and develops the Irish Times publication consistent with editorial policy as defined by the DAC Board and with the objectives set out in the Articles of Association of The Irish Times Trust.
S/he works closely with the Group Managing Director in managing the resources of The Irish Times and in achieving strategic and annual business goals.
The Editor serves as a member of the DAC Board and contributes to the overall strategy of the group and reports directly to the Board on all editorial matters for The Irish Times publication.
The ideal candidate will maintain rigorous standards of journalistic accuracy and fairness, will have the trust and respect of colleagues at all levels and a proven ability to lead a team of journalists of the highest calibre. As an experienced and widely respected journalist with a personal philosophy aligned to the objectives and values of The Irish Times, s/he will have a successful track record of leading change in a modern media environment with a strong quality and performance orientated culture.
