Java Web Developer

We wish to appoint a Java Web Developer.

Reporting to the Software Development Lead, and working as part of the Development team, this role will involve building new features for The Irish Times while ensuring scalability and stability of  Irish Times platforms.

The person appointed will have the ability to code, script and automate using Java, as well as modifying existing code as needed. It is important that the person appointed develops a thorough understanding of business needs in order to deliver accurate solutions.

S/he will keep abreast of technical developments and generate new ideas in terms of user-facing applications, internal systems and development. Candidates will set and maintain high standards of development software and processes.

The successful candidate should have a proven track record of commercial programming in a developer role and have an aptitude for writing scalable, robust and maintainable software. S/he will have solid experience working with Java, Javascript, SOAP and RESTful, and will have a strong working knowledge of Web services, XML, JSON, CSS, XSL/XSLT.

A third level qualification in Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field is desirable. S/he will be expected to demonstrate a keen interest and willingness to continue learning new technologies and an ability to work with stakeholders in a collaborative way. Previous CMS experience is essential.
